Zyban Says “NO” to Smoking
There have been invented dozens of different things to help smokers to rid of their habit. The market is full of nicotine patches and gums, inhalers, medications and other anti-smoking devises. One of the newest ways to keep smoke away is Zyban, a prescription drug which makes quitting smoking easier.
An advantage of the medication comparing to patches and gum is that it does not contain nicotine, so there is no risk to overdose and the body stops receiving poison as soon as the cigarettes are given up. Besides, it is allowed to keep smoking while taking the medication and slowly reduce the number of cigarettes going gradually to non-smoking.
Zyban helps by reducing withdrawal symptoms and making the urge to take a cigarette less. The patients say they stop feeling anxiety, irritation, frustration and anger if they take the pill and do not smoke. The only withdrawal symptoms which cannot be eliminated by Zyban and are considered to be its side-effects are dry mouth and insomnia.
It is strictly recommended to consult the doctor before taking Zyban. Patients must not take the drug if they have:
• Epilepsy or a seizure disorder;
• An eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia;
• Suddenly stopped using alcohol or sedatives;
• If they use a second form of bupropion.
The doctor might adjust a doze of Zyban if the patient reports about having:
• Heart disease, high blood pressure, history of heart attack;
• Kidney оr liver disease;
• Bipolar disorder or manic depression.
Zyban was created as an anti-depressant and its benefits with quitting smoking were unveiled later, so it is possible that a customer has symptoms of depression or any mood swings, but close work with the doctor will eliminate this problem.
The dosage on Zyban is very personal and it is important to follow doctor’s instructions. The patient should not overdose or take the medication longer than it was prescribed. As a rule people keep smoking for one week and then set the date for quitting. If it is impossible to give up cigarettes for seven weeks after the person started the treatment, it is recommended to talk to the doctor and see about changing the dosage or switching the way of treatment.
While taking Zyban the patient should stay away from drinking alcoholic beverages because they increase the risk of seizure. If the person has been drinking a lot before starting the treatment, the doctor should help to develop a schedule on how to reduce the amount of alcohol slowly without severe harm for health.
As many other prescription medications, Zyban may impair thinking and reaction. This is why it is necessary to give up driving while taking the drug.
