Zimulti, American Version of Acomplia

August 10th, 2009

A very good diet pill was designed in the U.K. in 2006. It was officially named Rimonabant, but the people know it more as Acomplia. Soon after the U.K. the medication became popular in Germany and forty other countries where customers were interested in anti-obesity drugs. The manufacturer was talking about it as a wonder-pill that did not only help to lose weight, but to quit smoking, to stop abusing alcohol and drugs, to lower cholesterol level, to control blood sugar and to reduce the risk of many diseases.

It was clear that Acomplia should become one of the most popular prescription diet pills in America where the number of obese people is so high, but FDA voted against it in summer 2007 because of the depressive side-effects. Sanofi-Aventis, the designer of Acomplia was planning to sell the drug in the U.S. named Zimulti. So far there has been no approval of the pill yet.

Rimonabant was designed as first of a kind medication which reduced weight by blocking CB-1 receptors in brain and in peripheral organs. The receptors regulate the appetite and when their work is stopped the food intake slows down and the body loses weight. There are several other benefits: when people try to quit smoking they constantly feel cravings for a cigarette, but if the receptors are blocked, the patient does not want to eat.

Zimulti helps to lose weight especially to those who have high Body Mass Index which determines a proportion between the person’s height and weight. When BMI is brought to normal, the patient is automatically drawn away from the risk of having high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart attack and some others.

Over 700,000 people all over the world have tried Rimonabant either as part of trials or during the time of sales. The clinical studies have shown that the participants succeeded losing weight, lowered cardiometabolic risk and improved the levels of HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and HbA1C (the indicator of blood sugar control).

A dosage of Zimulti is similar to Acomplia because basically it is the same drug: 20 mg pill should be taken with a full 8 oz glass of water. Zimulti is taken once a day before breakfast. The pill should be swallowed without chewing. It is important to remember that Zimulti works as a part of a well-balanced diet and regular exercise, but does not cure the weight problem by itself.

Zimulti is not approved by the FDA because some people reported about such side-effects as nausea, anxiety, insomnia and mood swings. Pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers should stay away from the drug.
