Skin Type Is Important for Skin Care

June 22nd, 2009

In order to provide best skin care the person should find out what type of skin he or she has. If it is done correctly the care will be done properly and with the most beneficial results because all the beauty products are marked by the types of skin and it is easy to find the right one if the person knows it.

There are five basic types of skin which are determined by the amount of oil produced. They are oily, combination, sensitive, dry and normal. Usually the type is inherited from parents, but it might change due to the diet, stress level and medications.

It is easy to find out the type of the skin. There is a little test which is easy for anybody to do: the person should wash the face, dry it with a towel and then take a piece of rice paper or leans cleaning tissue and press it to several spots on the face. If the paper sticks, becomes oily and translucent, the tested skin is oily. If the paper remains clean, the skin is dry or normal. As a rule, dry skin will show a few flakes after washing. If the paper picks oily spots only in t-zone (forehead, nose, chin), the skin is combination.

1.    Oily skin has large pores which is why it produces a lot of oil. It is usually shiny and tends to have blackheads and acne. The good advantage of this type is that it ages and acquires wrinkles slower than the other ones. Oily skin loves herbal steam treatments and clay masks which take away excessive amounts of skin oil and prevent pores from clogging.
2.    Normal skin has medium pores. It is the least problematic one because it provides the right amount of skin oil, does not have spots and early wrinkles. It has smooth and even texture, healthy hair and fine blood circulation.
3.    Sensitive skin is very thin and it has fine pores. People with this type flush quickly sometimes without a reason because the capillaries in the skin tend to break easily. Usually this type requires a lot of attention because it is very responsive to environmental changes, rashes, allergies, pimples, cosmetics with chemicals and alcohol. Sensitive skin will be “thankful” for light steaming, some essential oils and natural cosmetics.
4.    Dry skin does not give problems with oil, but it has its flaws: it flakes easily and tends to have fine wrinkles. It feels tight after cleaning. Darker people’s dry skin looks dull and ashy because of the dry flakes. It is important to hydrate the dry skin on the inside by drinking plenty of water and the outside with moisturizing crèmes, sprays and mists.
5.    Combination skin is medium between oily and dry. About 70% of all people have this type of skin. Unfortunately, it requires double care, because cheeks need moisturizers, but oily t-zone can benefit from foaming facial wash.
