Propecia Is the Cure for Male Pattern Baldness

June 26th, 2009

Male pattern baldness is the most wide-spread type of hair loss. Millions of men start losing hair when they turn 30-35 and it does not grow back. Propecia is the only once-a-day pill that is designed to slow down the hair loss and is approved by FDA.

The reason why men lose hair is the testosterone and a part of it that transforms into dihydrotesterone or DHT. The only purpose of the DHT is to kill hair follicles or stop them from functioning. Propecia was designed to influence on testosterone preventing it from turning into DHT.

Five years of clinical studies have proven high effectiveness of the drug. Nine out of ten men that took the pill had visible results: some of them regrew the hair; the others had no further hair loss. Both doctors and patients have been satisfied with the results Propecia was bringing.

The effect of the drug becomes visible not earlier than in 3 month of the drug usage. However, one might try to use Propesia for as long as 12 months. If in this period the patient does not see any changes, the further usage of it will not be beneficial.

Propecia was designed to treat male pattern baldness and should be used by men only. Women and children are strongly recommended to stay away from the drug. Propecia can cause birth defects if a woman uses it or even touches the drug while being pregnant. Propecia tablets are coated to prevent direct contact with the skin while handling, however, if a woman or a child touches a crushed or broken tablet, they should immediately wash the area with soap and water.

There have not been noticed any significant side effects. If taken as directed Propecia works toward its goal without bringing any type of discomfort. Cinical studies have shown that a very small number of participants (less than 2%) have experienced certain sexual side effects like less desire for sex, difficulty in achieving erection or decrease in the amount of semen. These side effects went away as soon as the men stopped taking Propecia. When overdosed the pill should not cause life-threatening symptoms, but it is still required to seek emergency medical attention.

Unfortunately the drug works over a long time only. Once started Propecia should be taken daily to keep male pattern baldness away. If one skipped a dose, it is all right to take the next tablet as soon as he remembers and not substitute it with other drugs. But it is important to keep up with the schedule as properly as possible, because it is likely to lose all the gain the patient had within 12 months if Propecia is stopped for a while.

If there are any questions about the medicine, the man should consult a doctor who will explain all the aspects of Propecia usage. It is important to go to the doctor and start the treatment as soon as possible because then more hair can be saved.
