Bacterial Infections Can Be Treated by Bactropan
Bactropan is an antibiotic treatment that is used to treat bacterial infections on skin. It prevents severe staphylococcus infections in patients and is also used by healthcare workers who might be at risk of the disease during its outbreak. Bactropan does not prevent viral infections such as cold or influenza.
The medication comes in a form of ointment and cream as a topical treatment for the infected skin areas. There is also Bactropan Nasal Ointment that is used to treat infected nostrils.
As a rule this medication is prescribed for five days. If the infection does not go away or becomes worse within this time, the patient has to notify the doctor. It is dangerous to use Bactropan for longer than 5 days because it might cause the overgrowth of other microorganisms. The amount of prescribed medication might vary, but the patient should stick to the plan set by the doctor. It is also important to use Bactropan for the entire time recommended by the doctor.
Before taking the medication the patient should talk to a doctor and fill out the form which contains all the details of the patient’s medical history. Bactropan cannot be used together with other nasal medications or treatments for the same area of skin. The patient should give full information about all prescription, over-the-counter and herbal treatments he or she is currently using. Bactropan is not expected to hurt an unborn baby, but the patient should inform the doctor if she is pregnant or is planning to become pregnant soon. It is also necessary to notify the doctor if the patient is breast-feeding a baby although there have not been any facts proving that Bactropan might be harmful for babies.
Some people might be allergic to the ingredients of the medication: it contains mupirocin and several types of polyethylene glycol. If such allergic reaction as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling occurs, the patient has to get emergency medical help. Bactropan should not be used if the person experiences severe burning or stinging, nose bleeding or watering of eyes. Other side-effects are possible, but acceptable. They are dryness or unpleasant taste in mouth, headache, earache, runny or stuffy nose, nausea, skin rash, cough, and sore throat. With these symptoms the patient might continue taking Bactropan, but talk to the doctor about them who might prescribe something else to relieve these side-effects.
